The environmental credentials of our RotaKids club took a boost today when they helped to recycle old library books for the Children’s Book Project https://childrensbookproject.co.uk/
Blyth Valley St. Felix RotaKids along with President Colin Coe and Rotarians Chris Caswell, Ronnie Carter and Alan Hardwick, boxed, bagged and crated up the contents of their library which is due for refurbishment.
The books were then taken to the nearest collection hub, Winkworth Estate Agent in Southwold, where the staff helped to unload the van for the books to be collected by the charity.
Our thanks go to Mrs Nicola Fisher at St. Felix School, the staff at Winkworth Estate Agents and of course the RotaKids.
RotaKids President Hugo Spalding chaired his first meeting of Blyth Valley St. Felix RotaKids today. Rotary President Colin Coe and Rotarian Alan Hardwick were also present to help guide the meeting and help with project ideas. The members were soon firing off ideas for fundraising, Shelterbox, helping the environment and donating books to charity.
President Hugo was also presented with the President’s jewel to be worn at meetings and official events.
You may be aware that members of Blyth Valley Rotary have been serving the community since 1960. You may not know, however, that Rotary is not just for adults. There is a whole family of Rotary for all ages.
In addition to Rotary, there is Rotaract for 18–30-year-olds, Interact for young people aged 12-18 and RotaKids for 7–12-year-olds.
RotaKids is a fun and exciting way for children aged 7-12 to make friends and get involved with important activities in the community whilst having fun and learning skills
40 St. Felix School pupils aged 7 to 12 became the first members of Blyth Valley RotaKids at a special school assembly on Tuesday 1st October.
President Colin Coe and St Felix Headteacher Matthew Oakman gave them their pledge cards and wristbands. Blyth Valley Rotarians will then work closely with them to help with their projects and events.
On Friday, November 22nd, President Colin then had the great pleasure of presenting RotaKids President Hugo with their Charter Certificate at their morning chapel service. They are now officially members of the Rotary family. We look forward to helping them with their projects with advice and funding in the near future.
We would also welcome the opportunity to introduce RotaKids to other primary schools in the area.
On Tuesday 1st October 2024, 40 children aged 7 to 12 at St Felix School became our first RotaKids group. Click here for more information.

Hopefully, this will incentivise other primary schools in the area to join in, too.
